When talking to people ya gotta know how to speak and the correct tones to use. You can’t just walk up to your boss and be like “Hey, I can’t work tomorrow cuz I got some things I gotta do. Is that coo?” No that won’t work, you need to approach that person properly. Where as if you’re talking to your friend and you’re dissing out on the plans you have made with them than he/she probably will understand and be alright with that sort of tone. They might actually be comfortable with that way than talking very proper and correct and also know that your comfortable and laid back around them. That shows a very important reason to understand the importance in changing language due to the situations.

With friends you are comfortable and you understand one another there is no need to try to present youself in any other light you are accepted for who you are.

I like your distinction between friendly, laid back conversation and tone versus the usually more rigid, professional tones used with an employer. I thought this a perfect post to point out that it is also important to “read” people. If an employer seems to send out tones, language and ideas that he prefers a more relaxed atmosphere, an employee who picks up on this may then be expected to comfortably speak with his or her employer as a friend. Those are the best, and rarest employments!
